Fairfield Grace has started a new Centering Prayer and Sacred Meditation practice, which will take place in the sanctuary every Wednesday, at 9:30 am and 7:00 pm. All are invited to attend at the church, or to pray wherever they are. We will be praying for the church family, for our friends and families, for healing and for inner peace. We will be praying to come closer to God.
Centering Prayer is based on the words of Jesus in the sermon on the Mount: “… But when you pray go to your inner room, close the door and pray to your Father in secret. And your father, who sees in secret, will reward you.” (Matthew 6:6)
It will help us deepen our relationship with God. It is recommended to practice two 20 – 30 minute periods of Centering Prayer daily.
Here is the recommended way to accomplish centering prayer:
1. Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God’s presence and action within. Use a word of one or two syllables, such as: God, Jesus, Abba, Father, Mother, Amen. Other possibilities include: Love, Peace, Let Go.
2. Sitting comfortably and with eyes closed, settle briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God’s presence and action within.
3. When engaged with your thoughts, which include body sensations, feelings, images, and reflections, return ever-so-gently to the sacred word.
4. At the end of the prayer period, remain in silence with eyes closed for a couple of minutes.
